Mr Andrews Amoako Asiamah, MP for Fomena constituency, said he would join the New Patriotic Party (NPP) party meeting in the next Parliament.
The elected MP was sanctioned by the NPP, the party under which he entered the House of Representatives, for running as an independent candidate in the 2020 general election. He defied the public warnings of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo by holding on to his guns and acting as an independent candidate.
The PNP reminded him of him as a Member of Parliament in a letter, after which he was dismissed.
However, Mr Asiamah won the general election as an independent candidate of the Fomena party and declared his willingness to work with the PNP in parliament.
The elected legislator said he understood that President Akufo-Addo had tried to reach him, but that his phone had been switched off for some time after the election for security reasons.
He stated that the President’s attempt to contact him had reached him through certain persons, but that he did not want to give details of the message.
said he would take into account both the national interest and the advice of his supporters and traditional leaders in his region to return to the nuclear power plant.
I must still be part of the family, he said to the reporters when he was spotted in the hallway of Parliament, stressing that his decision was not political but in the national interest.
If she calls for a return to the family, I’ll do it.
The question on which side I’m joining has already been answered. I said without a number I’m a member of the NPP by blood. That won’t change, he explained.
The member elected has expressed his or her willingness to reconcile himself or herself with the party, despite the President’s decision to declare his or her seat vacant a few days before the vote: I have nothing against anyone.
As far as I’m concerned, the decision was unfair. I didn’t like it. But what can you do? It’s a part of life. Take it and move on.
The elected Member of Parliament gave God credit for his victory and praised his voters for their unwavering support for his victory.
It wasn’t an easy choice for me, especially with the decision I made. I fought with the big parties like the NPP and the NDC, but God willing, the voters saw my potential and what I did. They noticed my humble service and sincerity to my voters.
A member who does not belong to or represent a political party is called an independent party.
A person can act as an independent person and a sitting member can decide to renounce membership of a party and become independent.
This may happen if a sitting member decides to leave the political party for which he or she was elected or if the party decides to expel one of its members.
The role of an independent member of parliament is to represent his or her constituency and get the best possible result out of government for his or her constituents.
Independents can generally vote on the basis of their convictions and the will of their voters, while members of political parties must follow the party line of the majority.
