Larry Grayson was an English comedian and television presenter. It reached its peak in the seventies and early eighties. He became famous as a presenter of the popular BBC Generation Play series, but also for his English music-hall humour and high-flying acrobatics.

Larry Grayson was born in 1923, son of William White. He was adopted by a coal mining family in Nuneaton. He never knew his father. Larry had two well-bred sisters, Flo and May. His mother Ethel gave Larry up for adoption to a friend of the coal family in Nuneaton.
Unfortunately, his adoptive mother Alice died. Fan (Florence), his youngest daughter, took over and raised Larry. Larry left school at the age of 14 and started performing in active men’s clubs. Then he changed his stage name to Billy Breen. He also toured the United Kingdom, not only in men’s magazines and drag shows, but also in vaudeville. Meanwhile, Larry and his agent have changed his name to Larry Grayson.
Death
On New Year’s Eve 1994 he was hospitalized. He was discovered to be suffering from a perforated appendix. After being brought home from the hospital, Grayson died on the 7th. January 1995 at Nuneaton. His body was buried with other members of his family at Oaston Road Cemetery in his hometown of Nuneaton.

At the age of 14, he worked for Billy Breen as a supporting actress in a comedy club. For the next thirty years he toured the United Kingdom, not only in men’s magazines and transvestite shows, but also in variety shows.

In 1970 he performed with Danny La Rue, the most famous dredger in the industry. He also appeared on Saturday Variety. He did it on Shut That Door! and The Larry Grayson Show.
He even became famous when he was hired by the BBC in 1978 to present the Saturday night performance Game of Generations to replace Bruce Forsyth. He was supported by his fellow star Isla St. Clair, whom he often called my beautiful Isla.
By 1981, Generation Game had surpassed ITV’s competitive series, Game for Laughs, in terms of audience share. Grayson decided to leave the generation game in 1982.
He also presented a pilot project for the Every Second Section program (1986). In 1981 he retired from television, but continued to perform in the theatre, especially in the pantomime.
