Family
His parents are Cubans who emigrated to the United States in 1956, before the rise of Fidel Castro in January 1959. His mother made at least four trips after Castro’s victory, including a month in 1961. Neither of his parents were American. At the time of Rubio’s birth, he was a citizen, but his parents applied for U.S. citizenship and were naturalized in 1975.

Rubio attended South Miami High School and graduated in 1989. He then attended Tarkio College in Missouri for one year on a football scholarship from 1989 to 1990, followed by Santa Fe Community College (now Santa Fe College) in Gainesville, Florida.
He received his B.A. in political science from the University of Florida in 1993 and his J.D. (cum laude) from the University of Miami School of Law in 1996. Rubio said his 2012 study earned him a $100,000 student loan.
Career
On the second. In November 2010, Rubio won the general election with 49% of the vote, which was 30% for Christ and 20% for Democrat Kendrick Meek. After winning the election, Rubio quickly became the subject of speculation as a possible Republican candidate for the 2012 presidential election. After his election, Rubio joined Bob Menendez of New Jersey as the only Hispanic in the Senate. Ted Cruz was elected Senator from Texas two years later.
The former Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives is a Cuban-American from Miami and a graduate of the University of Florida and the University of Miami Law School. He served as city commissioner for the city of West Miami in the late 1990s and was elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 2000, representing House District 111.
