President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo congratulated Mr Albana Sumana Kingsford Bagbin on his inauguration for his second term as President of Parliament on Tuesday.
First of all, I must warmly congratulate my good friend and old colleague in Parliament, the Honourable Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, on taking over the Presidency of the Parliament of the Eighth Republic.
The new Speaker of Parliament, the second Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of the recently dissolved Seventh Republic, has been a Member of Parliament for 28 years, Nadolly Kaleo, and the President has not said a word about the marathon years in the service of the Ghanaian people.
said President Akufo Addo: Nearly three decades of dedicated service to the legislature culminated when you were elevated to the rank of our nation’s third largest state office.
The president, who was a member of parliament for the electoral district of Abuakwa South, joined the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and served three terms (1996-2008) as a member of parliament under the party flag.
Under President John Kufuor, Akufo-Addo was Attorney General and Minister of Justice from 2001 to 2003 and then Minister of Foreign Affairs.
He was in Parliament with Mr Bagbin during his 12-year term.
The President trusts that his relations with the President of Parliament will be guided by the paramount interest of the Ghanaian people in ensuring good governance.

President Bagbin led a group of parliamentary leaders who received the president when he entered a large meeting tent in the building of the Osu Accra Parliament, which for the occasion became the Parliament Chamber.
He then thanked and congratulated President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamud Bawumia, saying that I sincerely thanked you for your inauguration and as Vice President for the board.
