Saroj Khan (b. Nirmala Nagpal; 22 November 1948 – 3 July 2020) is one of the most striking and important choreographers of Indian Hindi dance. She was born in Bombay (now Maharashtra), India. In a career of over forty years she has written more than 2000 songs and is known in India as the mother of dance/choreography. She died on the 3rd. July 2020 after a sudden cardiac arrest.

Born as Nirmala, her parents moved to India after the division of the country. She began her career as an artist at the age of three with Shyam’s child Nazaran and a dancer in the background in the late 1950s. She learned to dance under the guidance of the B-movie choreographer. Sohanlala, married him at the age of 13, when he was 43, and was already married with 4 children she did not know at the time of the marriage. She later became involved in choreography, first as an assistant to a choreographer, then as an independent choreographer, with Geeta Mera Naam (1974). However, she had to wait many years for the recognition that her work brought with Sridevi, Hawa Hawaii in India (1987), Nagina (1986) and Chandney (1989) and later with Madhuri Dixit, starting with Ek Do Teen in Thesaab (1988), Tamma Tamma Lodge in Tanedaara (1990) and Dhak Dhak Karne Laga in Beta (1992). She became one of Bollywood’s most famous choreographers.
In 2014 Khan worked with Madhuri Dixit again in the Gulaab-gang. She was a member of the advisory board at Rishid University.
Television equipment
Saroj Khan appeared as a juror on a reality TV show in Nach Baliya in 2005, which aired on STAR-1 with two other jurors. It also appeared in the second season of the same show. Recently she was a juror in the Ustadon Ka Ustad show, aired by Sony Entertainment Television (India). In 2008 she played in Nachle Ve with Saroj Khan, who was broadcasted on NDTV Imagine. She is the choreographer of this show. Since December 2008 she is part of the jury of the Sony Boogie Woogie series with Javid Jaffrey, Nadavid Jaffrey and Ravi Bel. She was judge in the third season of the popular show Jalak Dichla Jaa, which took place on the 27th. February 2009 and was aired by Sony Entertainment Television (India) with former judge Nach Baliye Waibhavi Merchant and actress Juhi Chawla.
She judged the reality show Nakhle Ve with Saroj Khan. She took and ended Nachle Ve with Saroj Khan.
In 2012 the documentary The Story of Saroja Khan appeared on the screens of PSBT and Films India, directed by Nidi Tooley.

Death
Saroj Khan was born on the 17th. June 2020, admitted to Guru Nanak Hospital in Bandra, Mumbai. She was hospitalized with respiratory problems and died early Friday, the third day of her life. July 2020, 1:52 a.m. Actual arrest. The legendary choreographer had severe diabetes and an associated disease, and the KOVID-19 test was negative. She was 71 years old at the time of her death. Saroj Khan survived her husband B. Sohanlal, son of Hamid Khan and daughters of Hina Khan and Sukin Khan.

The Madhuri Dixit dance to Dola Re Dola, for which Khan won his first national prize at the Unforgettable Tour in 2008.

Best film and choreography award
Saroj Khan was the first winner of the prize for best choreography. The film was awarded this prize after seeing an excellent choreography and audience response to a song by Han Ek Do Teen of Thesaab. Saroj Khan continued to win the Filmfare hat trick, which he won regularly for three years, from 1989 to 1991. She also set a record by winning the category Best Choreographer with 8 prizes.
